Listen again: Dr Nick Robinson on the Bradford protest

Dr Nick Robinson, Lecturer in Public Policy, talked to the BBC Radio Leeds Breakfast Show on the value of the anti-capitalist protest outside Bradford City Hall this week.

The protest, which appears to be in support of the Occupy London Stock Exchange (OLSX) protest, has attracted comments from locals who have suggested it is too vague and doesn’t have a clear focus.

Dr. Robinson offered his expertise on the value of the protest, commenting that the aims of the protest do seem to be vague. Although many of the protesters will have genuine concern for their jobs, like many others in the UK, it’s difficult to protest against something that is intangible.

He also commented how the neutering of conventional forums that help voice public concerns, such as trade unions and political parties, could have a detrimental effect on such protests.
